Do I need to print out my policy?

We recommend printing out your Green Card certificate to avoid any misunderstandings when crossing the border or dealing with the relevant authorities in other countries.

The Green Card must be printed on clean white paper without any additional text or images. Paper sizes from A6 to A4 are acceptable. Print it in portrait orientation using black ink only, so that the text is clear and easy to read. The back of the paper must remain blank.

How long should the Green Card be valid for?

The policy must cover the entire period of your stay abroad. You can purchase a Green Card for a period of 15 days to 12 months.

What happens if I do not have a Green Card?

Without a valid Green Card, you will not be able to cross the state border — the policy must be purchased in advance.

If your policy expires while you are already abroad, you may be fined by the police for driving without valid insurance. Fines in Europe can be substantial. Your vehicle may also be detained and towed to an impound lot until you obtain a valid insurance policy.

Most importantly, if you cause an accident, you will have to pay compensation to the injured parties yourself.

How can I check whether my Green Card is valid?

You can check the validity of your Green Card at any time on the MTSBU website. Simply enter your vehicle registration number or policy number:

Which countries does the Green Card cover?

The Green Card is valid in more than 40 countries, covering almost all of Europe as well as some countries in North Africa and the Middle East.

If several people drive the car abroad, do I need to list each driver when purchasing the policy?

No. The Green Card covers any person who is legally authorized to drive the vehicle.

What should I do if my policy expires before my trip ends?

In this case, you should purchase a new policy as soon as possible. You can do this online without any hassle.

Can I purchase a Green Card on the day I cross the state border?

You will not be able to cross the state border on the day you purchase the policy. The Green Card must already be valid when you cross the border, while the policy takes effect no earlier than the day after payment.

Therefore, you must purchase your Green Card at least one day before crossing the state border.

Can I purchase a Green Card while I am already abroad?

You cannot cross the state border without a valid Green Card. However, if your policy expires while you are already in another country, you can purchase a new policy without any problems.

Can I use the same policy to cross the borders of several countries?

Yes. There is no limit on the number of border crossings during the policy's validity period.
If you have purchased a policy that is valid in all countries participating in the Green Card system, you can cross the borders of all these countries as many times as you like during the policy's validity period.
However, if you have purchased a policy that is valid only in Moldova and Azerbaijan, you will need to purchase a new policy to travel to other countries.
